Tender Description

The purpose of this grant opportunity is to select the next Administrator for the NRHSN starting from 1 January 2024 or upon execution of the grant agreement (whichever is earlier) to 31 December 2026.

This grant opportunity was announced as part of the October 2022 Federal Budget to extend arrangements of the Rural Health Multidisciplinary Training Program (RHMT).

The RHMT currently supports 22 universities, forming a national network of Rural Clinical Schools, University Departments of Rural Health and Regional Training Hubs. This network provides infrastructure and academic channels for teaching and training medicine, nursing, allied health and dentistry students as well as supporting pathways into rural practice.

The NRHSN is complementary to the RHMT and supports the program to achieve its aims and objectives.

The NRHSN is the representative body for multidisciplinary health students pursuing rural careers. It is a national, rural health focused, multidisciplinary student network representing more than 11,000 medical, nursing, dental and allied health students across a network (of up to 29) RHMT university Rural Health Clubs and non RHMT Rural Health Clubs around Australia.

A key feature of the NRHSN is its representation of rural students across a range of health disciplines.

The aims of the NRHSN are to:

  • Provide a voice for multidisciplinary students who are interested in improving health outcomes for rural and remote Australians; and
  • Promote rural health careers to students and encourage students who are interested in practising in rural health care in the future.
