Enterprise Management System

⁠⁠⁠As part of Narrandera Shire Council’s (NSC) ongoing system improvements, Council is seeking tenders to migrate from Practical Plus to a new Enterprise Management System (EMS).

Practical Plus, purchased in 2004 is currently the oldest core application in use by Council and is kept up to date by Council staff with upgrades provided by Civica. Council currently operates the core suite of Practical Plus along with the Human Resources and Cemetery modules. Due to the age of the system, several issues are driving the requirement for change:

• Discontinued Vendor Development

Civica is no longer developing the Practical application, except for legislative requirements and bug fixes, and this is becoming an issue for staff who require extra functionality. Staff are also being forced to look to alternatives for processes such as Asset Management, Fleet Management, and Budgeting.

• Obsolete Database Technology

The database operating system that Practical utilises is obsolete and can currently only operate on Windows Server 2012. Microsoft is ending support for this product in 2023 and customers will be relying on Civica to upgrade the Practical Plus database to a version that is compatible with a newer version of Windows Server.
