Remediation Works at Catherine Hill Bay Possum Gully

⁠⁠⁠OVERVIEW

The Possum Gully Site is a former coal stockpile area for the now closed Wallarah and Moonee mines. Mining lease CCL706 under which the mining activities occurred is still in place and rehabilitation of the area is required before the lease can be relinquished. The Site is known as Domain 5B (Possum Gully).

 A Mine Operations Plan (MOP) has been prepared for the Site and submitted to the Resource Regulator.  The successful Contractor will ensure the Works meet the requirements of the MOP, will rehabilitate the Site to the standard agreed in the MOP and will provide Virgin Excavated Natural Material / Excavated Natural Material (VENM/ENM) for the Works.

The Site is classified as a mining area and the Contractor will comply with all mine site entry requirements. The Principals Personnel will undertake mechanical and electrical inspections of all equipment prior to it entering the Site. Trucks delivering VENM are excluded from this requirement. 

The Site belongs to National Parks and Wildlife Services of NSW (NPWS) and forms part of the Munmorah State Conservation Area. NPWS have specified conditions for entry to and work on the Site and these conditions must be adhered to for the duration of the Works.

The successful Contractor will be the Principal Contractor for the Site and will have management and control of the Site’s Work Health and Safety (WHS), environmental and security aspects for the duration of the Works. 

SUMMARY OF THE WORKS

Restore disused fire trail to comply with Category 7 fire trail requirements in accordance with the NSW RFS Fire Trail Standards (2016) to allow access to the Site. 

Source and / or provide, receive and store Virgin Excavated Natural Material / Excavated Natural Material (VENM/ENM) deliveries for use in Works.

Prepare the Site by scraping to remove weeds and collect surface coal from the area.

Reduce the combustion risk due to residual coal by blending or capping.

Overlay various areas with compacted VENM / ENM.

Fill gully and provide contoured drainage solution to reduce soil erosion.

Contour the Site to direct drainage into existing dams.

Hydromulch the Site using a native grass.

Set up, analyse and report on an analogue site to determine plant species and ratios for use in revegetation.

Undertake revegetation activites including Site preparation, seed collection, planting and maintenance.

LOCATION OF SITE

The Possum Gully Site in part of Catherine Hill Bay which is located approximately 140 km north of Sydney, New South Wales, and approximately 3 km off the Pacific Highway South of Caves Beach. The Possum Gully Site is off Montifiore St.

MANDATORY PRE-TENDER SITE INSPECTION

All Tenderers must attend a MANDATORY Pre Tender meeting to be conducted at 10am on WEDNESDAY 5th APRIL at the entrance to the Fire Trail off Montifore Street Catherine Hill Bay. Companies who do not attend the mandatory Pre Tender meeting will not be eligible to submit a Tender.

Visitors to the Site must provide and wear their own safety hats, safety footwear, protective safety eyewear (clear glasses), long sleeved shirts (hi-vis) and long trousers or combination overalls (hi-vis).

It is expected that all companies have downloaded and reviewed all documents pertaining to the works prior to the site inspection.
