The Professional Services Review (PSR) seek General Physicians to join the PSR Panel for medical specialists.
The Professional Services Review (PSR) is an independent statutory agency that conducts reviews when there is concern a practitioner may have inappropriately billed under the Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS) or Children’s Dental Benefit Scheme (CDBS) or prescribed under the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
Following a review, the PSR Director can decide to create a committee, comprised of members of the profession or specialty of a person under review, and refer that person to the committee.
The committee’s role is to decide whether the conduct of the person under review in providing or initiating services would be unacceptable to the general body of their peers. To do this, the committee considers clinical records and any other material provided. Committee members are practitioners drawn from the PSR Panel. Practitioners on this panel are appointed by the Minister for Health, after consultation with the AMA and other professional bodies.
PSR has recently received a request to review a general physician where the appointment is for a 5-year term.
Appointed members are required to attend one annual training day and an additional 4 to 6 days each year if the panel members are required to sit on a committee. There will also be additional work reviewing material for a committee, which is conducted on your own time.
The appointed member will be remunerated for their work according to the remuneration tribunal. All travel will be business class and covered by the agency.
The RACP will collate and send nominations to PSR for their consideration. Members will not be representing the RACP but will be serving in an individual capacity.
