Indigo Shire Council are seeking to engage a suitably qualified and experienced contractor to design and construct a new pedestrian access footbridge spanning across the drainage channel underneath Conness Street, Chiltern. Council have envisaged the new bridge being a single span truss/beam structure that considers the flood characteristic of the area and minimises visual impact. Works will also include concrete approach slabs to transition the structure into future footpath extensions (by council) at each end and the realignment and replacement of one guardrail terminal.
The pedestrian bridge will connect the footpath works completed in 2021 and extend the footpath network throughout Chiltern. Currently pedestrian access across the drain channel is only on road via Conness Street. Providing pedestrian access across the channel will increase pedestrian safety and improve the access throughout the area. Conness Street is a VicRoads managed road and consequently the bridge design will be subject to review by the Department of Transport (DOT).
