Tender Description

Weed, disease, and pest management are strategic priorities for GRDC. GRDC’s Key Investment Target (KIT) strategies for weeds, diseases, and pests require tools and technologies to generate accurate data on their occurrence, distribution, population dynamics, and impacts. Digital tools and technologies provide a basis to help do that. Satellite imagery, data fusion, machine vision, geospatial analytics, autonomous technologies, and/or other technological innovations have the potential to:

(a) value-add existing chemical, genetic, and cultural control methods, and associated knowledge;
(b) underpin more site-specific and proactive approaches to weed, disease, and pest management;
(c) enable new forms of site-specific management, e.g., electric in-crop weed control;
(d) generate data-based insights that support increasingly sustainable forms of crop protection, and;
(e) most importantly, improve the profitability and sustainability of Australian grain growers.

GRDC is seeking interest from partners with the capability to develop and bring to market innovative solutions for weed, disease, and pest management in Australian grain cropping systems. GRDC has outlined eight areas of investment within the scope of this EOI. These are described in table 1.

GRDC anticipates an investment of >$20m AUD over 4-5 years in projects arising from this EOI, depending on the potential impacts for growers. There is the potential to increase the quantum of investment where the business case for additional investment is strong.
