DoT 1701 - Automating the Heavy Vehicle permit assessment process
Department of Transport are seeking to replace the current labour-intensive structural assessment process with an automated structural assessment system. It will provide fast, consistent, and low-cost permits, reducing turnaround assessment times from up to several months to the same day, and improve confidence, productivity, and road network access for the heavy vehicle industry
The system will act as a single point of access to view, manage and conduct HV structural assessments, consolidating DoT’s multiple bespoke solutions. The solution design will automate the entire structural assessment process for Class 1 and Class 2 Heavy Vehicles, and deliver a 10% improvement to superloads. The automation will remove unsustainable and interim solutions in the form of two custom databases, multiple complex spreadsheets, unsupported python scripts and the need for 18 of the 28 staff currently utilised to deliver the function. These permits will now be available to be responded to overnight where it used to take weeks and months to complete.
