Tender Description
This Tender is invited by the Issuer.
Introduction
Geoscience Australia’s Digital Earth Australia Program (DEA) uses satellites, cloud computation and cutting-edge science to enable decisions that support a sustainable Australian environment, a resilient society, and a strong economy. DEA actively leverages a wide variety of contemporary open source, cloud, container orchestration and distributed computing technologies, in support of our scientific and operational objectives.
Our work empowers individuals, industry, and government partners to conduct local and continental-scale science and research. DEA’s work provides unique insights for land and water management, and for conservation of natural environments. We also deliver timely water and fire-related information across Australia.
DEA supports the exploration and development of innovative solutions to our unique challenges. Geoscience Australia strives to be an employer of choice; DEA actively encourages an inclusive and supportive organizational culture, welcoming diverse applicants and incorporating unique perspectives for collective benefit.
We would like to engage a contractor to support DEA’s cloud-based capabilities. The role will involve designing, implementing and managing purpose-built cloud infrastructure that is scalable, reliable, cost-effective and secure.
Statement of Work:
• Work with data scientists and software engineers to create, maintain and scale scientific workflows, data processing pipelines and products
• Work together with a diverse team of people to develop maintainable and well documented code
• Collaborate with other cloud engineers to help build and run cloud-native solutions
• Explore new ways of processing data that save time and deliver improved outcomes
• Provide technical advice to software engineers, data scientists and executive stakeholders via Slack, GitHub, email, and formal documentation
• Join program-wide coordination ceremonies such as daily stand ups, three-week sprints, and program increment planning

This is a great opportunity to work in an inclusive team, to interact with peers from around the world working on open data and open-source software, and to make Earth Observation data more accessible to researchers and scientists right across Australia.
