The Maritime and Geospatial Systems section brings together the Australian Maritime Identification System (AMIS), the Enterprise Geospatial Environment, Surveillance Information Management (SIM) system on the ABF Aviation platforms, numerous Maritime Situational Awareness applications for the Maritime Border Command (MBC) and the Geospatial applications on the ABF Maritime Fleet.
The Section has responsibility for delivery of Data Visualisation applications for the Connected Information Environment via the Analyst Desktop platform, and the National Joint Common Operating Picture for Emergency Management Australia. This includes front-end User Interface development, platform support, as well as work to deliver data services from the Connected Information Environment and other data providers.
The Specified Personnel will be responsible for providing the following deliverables including but not limited to:
• Developing various functional components of the data warehouse and applications;
• Developing, maintaining and unit testing system components;
• Developing and maintaining:
- strong effective working relationships with key management personnel and internal client base;
- positive team ethos within the immediate workgroup through positive participation and communication;
• Assisting in the physical table, database design and development;
• Performing data cleansing functions;
• Performing system management functions, including load automation, data acquisition functions and others;
• Understanding and describing requirements and evaluating data for conformance to expectations;
• Providing development effort estimates for changes to existing applications and new applications;
• Providing Code Review and other Quality Assurance tasks for projects and for code delivered by the Section;
• Implementing work standards including design, development and unit testing standards;
• Maintaining and developing systems and applications;
• Coding, unit testing and correcting large or complex application and components;
• Managing and organising competing priorities and conflicting interests;
• Demonstrating sound judgement and decision making skills;
• Providing problem diagnosis and resolution;
• Conducting environment configuration;
• Monitoring and supporting ETL production processes;
• Analysing and resolving ETL production incidents;
• Developing, enhancing and documenting procedures to assist with ETL production support;
• Communicating ETL production support incidents to stakeholders;
• Undertaking data profiling, system analysis and impact analysis;
• Undertaking application development - design, development, testing and documentation of ETL processes;
• Managing code deployment;
• Be part of the 24x7 support team. Providing out of hours support, including a requirement to be on call, on a rostered basis. This entails:
- Specified Personnel to be available, and in the ‘required state of readiness’ to perform extra duty outside of standard business hours;
- The ‘required state of readiness’ includes the requirement for Specified Personnel to:
* Physically attend on site within 30 minutes of notification of requirement to attend or as directed by Director, Maritime & Geospatial Systems (MGS);
* Maintain compliance with the Department’s Professional Standards and Integrity Framework, which includes but is not limited to, ensuring Services are not performed whilst impaired by any legal or illegal drugs or alcohol.
- Specified Personnel will be provided with a mobile telephone with on call.
Specified Personnel will be expected to transfer skills and knowledge to departmental staff and ensure appropriate documentation is stored in accordance with the Department’s recordkeeping policy and practices.
Specified Personnel will also be responsible for producing the following deliverables, including but not limited to:
• Technical Specifications;
• Basic Architect documents;
• Technical design and matrix;
• Architectural documents;
• System Design Specifications;
• Work flows, events and sequence diagrams;
• UML (Universal Mark-Up Language) charts;
• Environment Context Definitions; and
• Deployment plans.
