Position Purpose
The Department is seeking an experienced application developer to support the Australian Antarctic Division’s (AAD) ColdFusion business applications. This includes the planning, implementation, and maintenance of web applications, databases and data management technologies associated with the applications.
As a part of the AAD ICT team, the work performed is critical to the day-to-day work of AAD staff by providing application services to areas of the business such as medical, human resources, operations, science, and policy.
Responsibilities
The Applications developer will operate under direction of the AAD Infrastructure and Applications Manager and will work closely with other members of AAD ICT as well as a wide range of clients and business contacts within AAD branches and external agencies associated with Australia’s Antarctic program.
The primary functions of the applications developer in AAD ICT are:
• Support of web applications and databases to support the Australia’s Antarctic program
· Active management and maintenance of AAD applications and databases
· Maintenance and migration of existing applications into corporate and off-the-shelf products, which may include:
o liaison with stakeholders to determine application requirements
o specification and evaluation of solutions
o maintaining existing systems
o documenting, administering, and maintaining the AAD applications
o training others in application use and support
· Support the day-to-day operations of AADs ICT Applications services
The specific responsibilities/applications developed and/or supported by the IT Applications Developer for this role include:
· Antarctic Applications Online (AAO) - Suite of public facing applications crucial to external applicants of the AAD like science applications and cargo assignments.
· Various internal only AAD ColdFusion Applications – Used by AAD internal stakeholders for Antarctic operations and provisioning, for example:
o AAHR - Australian Antarctic Health Register
o AAP2 - Australian Antarctic Programs Administration
o APS – A HR used system for managing expeditioners
o Clothing - Clothing and Kitting
o Disposal - Disposal System
o eCon – Consignment and tracking of goods to/from and within AAD
o ETA – Ticketing System for transports by air and sea to and from Antarctica
o Disposal - Disposal System
o ITA - Information Technology Assets
o SDS - Staff Directory System
o STS - Science Technical Support
o WhereIS - WareHouse Electronic Receipting Information System
Preference is to have candidates available to work from the Tasmania location, however work from other locations may be considered for the right applicant.
