NFC Bus Stop Rollout
Tender ID: 481075
Tender Details
Tender Description
Near Field Communication (NFC) is a technology which can be used for contactless exchange of data over short distances. NFC is commonly used in applications such as reading electronic tags or contactless payments.
TransLink has previously conducted a Proof of Concept (PoC) to test the capability and feasibility of providing customers with NFC at bus stops as a simple, no barriers means to access real-time public transport information for that specific stop, all without the need for a mobile app. This PoC was successful and customer feedback obtained was very positive. As a result, TransLink have developed a strategy for digitally enabled bus stops which includes the provision of NFC at every urban bus stop in Queensland (approximately 14,000 stops).
TransLink are seeking a passive NFC solution that will allow customers to interact with a specific NFC tag at a bus stop and have their smartphone device open the specific website page for that bus stop on the TransLink website (www.translink.com.au). When a customer activates an NFC tag the customers mobile device should automatically launch its default browser and point to the configured TransLink URL to provide latest bus timetable information in real time.
