Sydney Water is planning to issue a tender for the provision of hardware for ABN registered businesses to respond to.

This project utilises IoT devices to detect blockages in wastewater pipes before they lead to wastewater discharge into the environment.

Wastewater overflows from access chambers (manholes) into the environment are a public health risk, can cause customer inconvenience, impact sensitive waterways and bushland and incur massive clean-up costs, fines and reputational damage. We have been successfully deploying IoT devices to monitor sewer levels in access chambers across our wastewater collection network. Due to the success of the project Sydney Water is engaging the market for assessment, field testing and shortlisting of the next stage of the project. This stage includes the monitoring of 22,666 access chambers at environmentally high-risk sites.

We are looking for suppliers who provide us with

  • sewer level monitoring instruments, such as float switches and level sensors and/or
  • LPWAN capable transmitters

These are either as individual components or as an integrated solution. Assembly and installation services can be offered optionally

The devices need to service the harsh sewer environment and work without interaction required for the warranted lifetime. The attached RFT Preview document device specification lists basic requirements for those devices.
