Tender Description
Concrete rehabilitation works of the heritage listed Surrey Hills Water Tower (WTS006) for Yarra Valley Water
The condition of the Yarra Valley Water (YVW) owned concrete water tower at Melbourne Water’s Surrey Hills Reservoir 2 has degraded to the point where it is no longer safe, as YVW staff, local residents and contractors are at risk of spalled concrete falling from on them from heights of up to 40m. As this redundant asset is heritage listed with Whitehorse Council, demolishing it is not an option. An assessment of the condition of the tank has been undertaken and indicates that reparation work must be done to make this structure safe.
As a result, Yarra Valley Water is looking to engage a contractor to conduct concrete repairs to the tower and rectification of the external access ladder which is currently condemned and not able to be used.
Upon successful completion of this project, it is anticipated that the tower’s lifespan will have been extended by at least 25 years
Note that the quantities of concrete repair in the tender schedule are based on a 2017 condition assessment that was undertaken, and there is likely to have been further degradation since then. An updated condition assessment is planned to be completed within the next 6 weeks, and the final contract amount will be based on these updated quantities. The tender documentation allows the tenderers to enter provisional rates for additional concrete repair on a unit price basis.
The tender documents attached contain all of the relevant information that is required in order for prospective contractors to put together a bid for this project.
An on site tender briefing will be held on Wednesday 21 April at 11am. Details of this are included in the Request for Tender documentation
