Tender Description

⁠⁠⁠The Northern Territory Risk Reduction Program has been established under a National Partnership Agreement with the Australian Government on Disaster Risk Reduction.

The Northern Territory Risk Reduction Program aims to reduce the risks and limit the impacts of natural disasters in the Northern Territory by maximising opportunities to better understand natural disasters, enhance investment and improve governance.

The initiative will deliver on the priorities, five year outcomes and 2030 goals of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Framework.

Who can apply
Funding is available to not for profit organisations only.

To be eligible for funding an organisation must

  • be operating as a not for profit organisation
  • meet one of the following:
  1. be incorporated under and compliant with the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act (Commonwealth)
  2. be incorporated under and compliant with one of: the Associations Act (NT), the Corporations Act 2001, the Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act (Commonwealth), any other Act of Parliament
  3. be a local governing body or an incorporated organisation delivering local government or municipal services
  4. be incorporated under and compliant with the Associations Act (NT)
  5. if your organisation does not have legal standing, you must have an administering body that is incorporated under a relevant Act to take responsibility for administering, reporting and acquitting the grant on behalf of your organisation
  • be physically located and actively operating in the NT
  • have completed all required information in the application form and submitted required documentation in support of your application
  • have public liability insurance of at least $20 million
  • be registered for Goods and Services Tax if your organisation earns $75,000 or more per year

Types of organisations that are eligible for funding include

  • Local governments
  • Not-for-profit organisations with emergency management responsibilities
  • Research institutions with project endorsement from an emergency management organisation
  • Northern Territory Government departments

Available funding

Eligible applicants may apply for funding to a maximum of $150 000 per project (inclusive of GST where applicable).

Applications for funding above this amount may be negotiated where the applicant makes a co-contribution. Projects that aim to provide significant benefit in disaster risk reduction in the NT may also be considered.

What can be funded

To be considered for funding under the NTRRP, projects must meet the following requirements:

  • address disaster risks associated with one or more of the seven natural hazards identified in the National Disaster Risk Reduction Framework (bushfires, floods, cyclones, storms, heatwaves, earthquakes and tsunamis)
  • demonstrate tangible reduction in the risks associated with natural disasters in the Northern Territory
  • commit to using Territory Enterprises and materials sourced locally and, where appropriate, conduct competitive processes
  • include an assessment of and mitigation strategy for project risks throughout the term of the agreement
  • align to at least one of the priorities of the National Disaster Risk Reduction Framework.
