Tender Description

The Corangamite CMA is seeking the services of an experienced consultant with relevant technical and scientific experience and expertise to deliver Stage 1 of the Rewilding Sub-project, referred to as the project herein.

The project will be designed with the aim of creating the required conditions to support the reintroduction/rewilding of one or more lost and/or sparse threatened small mammal species important to the Otway Ranges (e.g. New Holland Mouse, Smokey Mouse, Broad-toothed Rat, Swamp Antechinus). The project is to strategically focus on critical refuge areas for small mammals. The project is to be designed and implemented with involvement from relevant technical specialists (e.g. Universities, Zoos, NGOs, consultancies, land management agencies) to ensure the project outcome can be achieved.

Stage 1 will focus on undertaking a Desktop feasibility study and high-level planning and decision framework to inform Stages 2 and 3. It should:
- Draw upon refugia research.
- Consider the option of planning species release into modelled viable habitat, taking into account the impacts of climate change, and potential spread of Phytophthora cinnamomi.
- Consider the potential use of artificial habitat structures to support reintroductions, where relevant.
- Demonstrate a strong monitoring and evaluation component to guide ‘rewilding/reintroduction’ decision-making.
Sub-projects will be of an iterative nature and contain data collation and monitoring interdependencies that will need to be managed by the consultant through the delivery process.
