Expressions of interest sought for HRCC Art Boxes Project

⁠⁠⁠Horsham Rural City Council’s Public Arts Advisory Group is currently seeking expressions of interest from artists across the municipality to help enliven the city.

NBN boxes, traffic signal boxes, power boxes and a selected wall are on offer to be transformed. Artwork will be applied as a vinyl wrap, or painted on directly, depending on the surface type.

Artists are able to submit proposals to the Public Arts Advisory Group, which will then create a shortlist of designs.

The purpose of the project is to beautify public spaces, and to engage the arts and broader community in meaningful public artwork. This is also a project that can be instigated from the safety of isolation, and remain as a profound marker of this time.

The Public Arts Advisory Group welcomes submissions of all styles including those based in design, photography, painting, illustration and street art, but asks that large planes of single colour or neutral space are limited to prevent opportunities for the artworks to be unscrupulously added to. Themes connecting the different sites around the city are also welcomed.

Submissions close on Monday 22 June, with selected artists to be advised on Thursday 26 June. Installation of the new artworks will be completed by August 2020.

Each type of box/surface comes with its own guidelines and set of requirements, so artists are encouraged to read the full project brief before applying.
