The radiated noise signature of a submarine is a critical parameter of its operational performance, and therefore needs to be characterised. Such characterisation is performed using acoustic ranges to determine the far field radiated noise.
Naval Group is undertaking a study to determine the most effective combination of measurement tools, locations and methods to perform acoustic measurements of the Attack Class submarine in Australian waters.
As part of this work, a survey of existing oceanographic data is first required to determine locations around Australia that may be suitable for radiated acoustic noise and target echo strength measurements. Naval Group Australia is therefore seeking the services of a subcontractor familiar with oceanographic data and acoustics to conduct an Ocean Environment Study (OES).
