The Bung Bong borefield is located approximately 8km East of Avoca and supplies water to Avoca via the Avoca WTP. The existing site comprises of Bore 1 (decommissioned) and Bore 2(operational) which currently operates to pump flow to the Lead Dam Tank which gravity feeds flows to the Avoca Water Treatment Plant (WTP). A major failure of the existing Bore 2 would cause significant disruption to customers in Avoca and the surrounds as Bore 2 is currently the sole water supply for Avoca.
Due to the lack of redundancy in operations, a new bore was drilled in March 2019 for the installation of Bung Bong Bore 3 to be operated as a duty / standby system in conjunction with existing Bore 2. Bore 3 is to connect into the Bung Bong Raw Water Main downstream of existing Bore 2 connection. The new Bore 3 is to be suitable for operation in the existing A/C pipeline for immediate operation, however it is expected that for the life of the pump it will mostly be operating into the new PE pipeline. This will be used to select a pump such that the best efficiency point matches typical future operation.
The scope of this tender is to provide the bore pump, headworks, new pipework within the compound, connection to the existing piping, new MCC switchboard, new Control Panel, associated instrumentation and cabling.
