Gunbower Landfill Cap Remediation and Retaining Wall Repairs

⁠⁠⁠Campaspe Shire Council is seeking the services of a suitably qualified and experienced contractor to complete landfill remediation works and retaining wall repairs at the Gunbower Landfill, located at 4134 Murray Valley Highway Gunbower, Victoria.  

The Gunbower Landfill is located on Crown Land for which Council has a licence. The area is approximately 1 hectare and is classified as an unlicensed rural landfill, which was closed in 1999.

The site also operates as a waste transfer station and is open to public on Mondays from 1 – 4 PM and Sundays from 9 AM – 12 PM.

Landfill Cap Remediation:

The northern end of the landfill cap has deteriorated to a point where intervention is required. Slumping has occurred and waste is now protruding from the cap. This exposes the waste mass to rain which can generate leachate and detrimentally impact the environment, specifically groundwater. To rectify the situation Council intends to reinstate the cap to the intent setout in the original Landfill Rehabilitation and Management Plan.

Retaining Wall Repairs:

The retaining wall that allows safe disposal of waste to the waste skip, associated with the transfer station has deteriorated and requires replacement and improvement, to facilitate better use of the area.
