Maitland City Council Content API

⁠⁠⁠Council currently operates 11 websites in total. This includes three websites on Drupal 7 govCMS, two single site environments on WordPress and a WordPress multisite environment that includes six event related websites. All sites have an event listing element with many events requiring individual upload across most or all these sites, which creates a significant efficiency challenge for our content editors.

Staff are currently adding events and business listings to these sites in an ad-hoc fashion, and due to varying permissions, field structures and editorial workflow, there is an ongoing inconsistency of information across all sites, creating a confusing experience for the customer.

In addition to the poorer user experience on our website when looking for up to date event or business information, the time it takes our staff to load content across multiple sites is unnecessary due to the level of duplication. If a solution to this problem could be presented, a considerable amount of staff time could be saved, and redeployed to more valuable work.

Another key consideration and problem presented as part of this request for quotation, is that Council currently also load events and business information that meet a certain criterion to the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) which is a Tourism Australia and State Tourism Office Initiative and when loaded here they are aggregated to Australia.com and visitnsw.com which are the federal and state government tourism websites.

An example of this would be Maitland Taste Festival, which is an event currently entered separately into four websites including Maitland City Council corporate website, My Maitland, Maitland Taste and also to the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) which aggregates to Australia.com and visitnsw.com.

When preparing a proposal please present any innovative concepts/solutions for how this can also be managed, taking into consideration our desire to limit duplication of event or business content.
