Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) seeks focussed, succinct full applications from research organisations with the capability to undertake research and development into potential causes, control methods and mitigation actions for Pasture Dieback.
In 2017 a new outbreak of pasture dieback was observed across southern to northern Queensland. Current predictions of land affected is 200,000+ ha with AgForce estimating a possible 4.4 million hectares could be overtaken by dieback by the end of the outbreak The cause and treatment of pasture dieback is currently unknown and defines the scope of this ToR.
MLA is seeking full applications for research into causal factors, diagnosis, predisposing factors, understanding and prediction of spread, and on property monitoring (risk assessment) of Pasture Dieback. Notwithstanding that the cause/s of Pasture Dieback is yet to be determined, prospective causal factors, monitoring and analysis to inform predisposing co-factors, are key to the initial focus. Subsequently MLA will be interested in determining effective control options for Pasture Dieback as well as establishing strategies to mitigate any future outbreaks.
Work should be completed with specific outputs by 15 April 2021. Staged proposals (eg expanding initial work) that warrant further work after May 2021 may be considered.
