Earlier this year, Council resolved to take a lead role in organising bicentenary celebrations for the township of Morpeth, which will occur in November 2021. The MBWG, will undertake preliminary scoping to form options as to how the bicentenary could be commemorated. The Group will be tasked with developing a project proposal that will be reported to the new Council, following the September 2020 Council elections, for determination.
Council’s Executive Manager Vibrant City Rachel MacLucas says, ‘The MBWG will play an important role in scoping what might be possible to commemorate the Morpeth bicentenary. We’re looking for residents and business representatives that reside, have an interest in, or work in Morpeth who have a strong connection to and within the township and are willing and have the capacity to make an active contribution to the MBWG.
‘We are looking for a group with a balance of connections to youth, tourism, arts, culture and built and social heritage so we encourage everyone interested to submit an expression of interest for assessment’.
