Morriss Road Pump Station Electrical Upgrade
Tender ID: 395137
Tender Details
Tender Description
Warrnambool City Council invites tenders for the supply and installation of equipment for replacement and upgrade of the existing Morriss Road Pump Station control system and flow meter.
The Morriss Road pump station was installed in 1985 and services a stormwater catchment area of approximately 130ha. Due to the age of system and a lack of regular maintenance, several issues have been identified with the pump station.
- There is no natural outlet for stormwater from the Morris road pondage, water is pumped via rising main to Braithwaite Street and discharges into gravity mains that drain to the Merri River / Kelly Swamp.
- On 16th November 2017, surface flooding at the intersection of Morriss Road and Helpman Court occurred, as a result of the pump station not functioning correctly. It was identified that one of the three pumps failed to start, which meant the pump station was well under capacity to manage the rainfall event.
The 1985 Design Duty Point for the pump station was 200 litres per second at 15 m total head. (Including Static, fitting losses and dynamic friction head).
Advice from Engeny stormwater analysis is that the maximum flow rate for downstream 600 mm gravity drain is 180 l/sec.
The Engeny flood modelling also suggests that the land at the pump stations is subject flood during 1% events. The flooding has the potential to impact the operation of the pump station and put it out of service, creating a major emergency to get stormwater out of the basin as the pump station is the only effective way to remove water from the basin area.
Council engaged PM Design Group to undertake electrical design and technical documentation.
