Building 28 will become the main decant building for staff and students for subsequent stages of the Townsville Campus Refurbishment.
The refurbishment of Building 28 is one of several projects which collectively form the Townsville Campus Renewal Project (TCR) being delivered over a 7 year horizon. TCR is a series of significant refurbishment and demolition projects that provide for overall space efficiencies across the Townsville Campus, facilitating an approximate 15% reduction in the built footprint. This is a major 'whole of university' development proposal for JCU involving several Divisions, Colleges and external parties.
Significant decanting space is required to accommodate staff and students displaced by the TCR refurbishment program. Completion of The Science Place (TSP) has left Building 28 vacant and provided the opportunity to use the space for decanting purposes. The building is situated proximal to the center of the campus, and has capacity to accommodate a large number of staff and students. The building and fit-out will remain 'fit for purpose' following TCR.
