Elwood College Hockey Ground - Project Management Services

⁠⁠⁠In late 2018, the MCC Foundation, Elwood College and the Victorian Government’s Department of Education and Training (DET) entered into a joint use agreement for the construction of a new floodlit hockey ground on the grounds of Elwood College for use by MCC Hockey outside of school hours.

MCC Hockey
MCC Hockey is one of 13 sporting sections of the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC). The Hockey Section of the Melbourne Cricket Club was formed in 1960 and currently has both of its 1st XI men’s and women’s teams competing in the Hockey Victoria, Premier League competition.

MCC Hockey’s home ground is situated in the grounds of Melbourne High School (MHS) which MCC Hockey share the use of with the MHS Old Boys Hockey Club (MHSOBHC) outside of school hours. MCC Hockey are currently the only Premier League grade hockey club that does not have access to at least the whole of a ground as a tenant club.

MCC Hockey have determined the need for long term exclusive access to a suitable second ground in close proximity to MHS for the following reasons:
* To provide suitable additional ground time for current teams and programs which are already not being met – MCC Hockey do not currently have all the training time needed whilst playing many home senior games at other often more expensive venues;
* To allow MCC Hockey to expand their junior programs – MCC Hockey have noted they have exhausted available space at MHS in 2017 and need to add more teams than can be accommodated at MHS; and
* To allow MCC Hockey to accommodate additional senior teams and Masters Competitions at a Hockey Section home ground.

Elwood College
Elwood College is a co-educational, non-selective public school in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria. It has more than 550 students, including many who live in the surrounding area and many international students. The school was founded in 1957 and was originally named Elwood High School. With a prestigious location in the heart of Elwood, the college is just a short walk to the beach and a 15-minute drive from the central business district.

Since 2016, MCC Hockey have been in discussions with Elwood College regarding the option of funding and building a new hockey facility at the school. As part of its masterplan and with the help of Victorian Government funding, Elwood College have recently completed a major redevelopment of their school buildings and outside works including new hardcourts and landscaping. The building of a new hockey ground forms part of the overall masterplan with Elwood College having allowed space to accommodate the new facilities.

The MCC seeks to appoint a suitably qualified Consultant to provide project management related services to the MCC for the Elwood College Hockey Ground project.
