The project involves the construction of a town centre bypass to the west of the rail corridor along the Butler Street road reserve in Byron Bay. The Bypass will connect the southern and northern ends of the Byron Bay CBD for through-traffic. The nominated road corridor is approximately 1km long.
The Bypass forms an integral part of a proposed infrastructure upgrade to enhance the town's local economy which aims to support alternate modes of transport and to promote an array of cultural uses. The Byron Bay Bypass will also ease current traffic congestion within the CBD allowing traffic to flow smoothly, which in turn makes for safer pedestrian and cycle access to the town centre. Ultimately, this will promote use of the CBD area amongst locals and visitors to the area.
