UTS currently operates its primary IT infrastructure from Macquarie Telecom's colocation data centre in Macquarie Park, under a contract that expires on 30 September 2019.
In addition to the option of extending its tenancy at its current location under a new contractual arrangement, UTS is investigating alternative options for relocating its IT infrastructure to an alternate data centre.
UTS currently has secure access to a private cold-aisle containment enclosure with 18 racks (of which 3 racks are separately metered for a related party), and an overall power allocation of 110 kW. UTS operates a range of physical and virtual hardware; its medium-term IT strategy is to migrate applications and infrastructure services to a private / public / hybrid cloud environment over time. This will potentially result in a reduction in space and power requirements, although organic growth and special projects will offset some of this reduced requirement. UTS requires a flexible approach to space, power and cooling allocation.
UTS collaborates with a wide range of external organisations including other education and research establishments where confidentiality and data security are of paramount importance; the UTS data centre environment must therefore ensure a high degree of security and privacy.
