The Australian Digital Health Agency (the Agency) was established by the Australian Government in July 2016 to drive digital health for the Australian community. We are working with the Australian community, clinicians, researchers and industry to connect people and their clinicians, and ultimately, to improve health and care in our community. This year we are focusing on connecting people and information from general practice, community pharmacy, diagnostic imaging, pathology and hospitals.
We recognise the importance of consumers and health care providers having access to diagnostic information to support the transfer of care between healthcare settings.
Pathology and Diagnostic Imaging services are fundamental to the delivery of health care in Australia. The Agency work plan includes a specific deliverable to connect data feeds from public and private diagnostic imaging practices to the My Health Record system to make diagnostic imaging results more readily available to consumers and clinicians.
To achieve this vision, the Agency is partnering with pathology and diagnostic imaging software providers to accelerate the contribution the pathology and diagnostic imaging providers can make to a digitally-enabled healthcare system. This offer will support enhancement of their products, to allow uploading to the My Health Record system. We want to ensure providers can access people’s health records and share the vital information they hold with patients and other healthcare providers.
