When the NMI assumed responsibility for Trade Measurement from the States & Territories on 1 July 2010 it inherited the equipment and measurement standards that had been in use by the former jurisdictions. While much of these items were of serviceable quality there were some that were unserviceable or reaching the end of their serviceable life. The procurement of these items will replace equipment which has reached the end of their serviceable life. This new equipment will add to the consistency and professionalism of services provided by National Trade Measurement.
Reference weights of these denominations are used in Trade Measurement Services laboratorys to conduct the calibration of large weights from 100 kg up to 5000 kg used by both Trade Measurement Services and Servicing Licensees to conduct the checking and calibration of high capacity weighing instruments (≥ 3,000 kg ≤ 200,000 kg) used by large industrial organisations.
These reference weights are also used in Trade Measurement Services laboratorys for the gravimetric calibration of volume measures up to 5000 L capacity. These volume measures are subsequently used by both Trade Measurement Services and Servicing Licensees to conduct the checking and calibration of large flowmeters used in the petroleum industry and milk industries.
Accordingly, the Department invites suitably qualified consultants/contractors to submit a tender for the supply of 1 x 100 kg, 2 x 200 kg, 1 x 500 kg and 3 x 1000 kg stainless steel weights.
