Construction of an Under Floor Wheel Lathe Building and Associated Civil Works

TasRail is currently seeking the services of suitably qualified, experienced and competent Contractor to tender a price for the construction of a steel portal frame workshop building and associated civil works to house a new under floor wheel lathe, supplied and installed by others, for on track maintenance of train wheels and located in the South Burnie rail yard. Works exclude track construction but include the construction of track formation and in-floor allowance for the installation of rail and under train service pits.

Key Points of Tender:
* AS4000 Contract with two separable portions (construction and civil)
* Some site constraints associated with ongoing rail operations;
* 375sqm Steel Portal Frame with substantial foundation and footing works;
* Work collaboratively with the lathe and gantry crane installers;
* Removable roof section to allow equipment installation and maintenance;
* Construction of rail formation, shunt pedestrian paths, yard lighting, fencing and landscaping;
* No disruption to existing train operations by the works;
* Compliance with all standards and co-operation with local government;
* Sustainability including origin of supply, support of Tasmanian industry, impact on Tasmanian industry (Buy Local Policy);
* Mature Health, Safety and Environment compliance processes and systems essential;
* Construction Industry White Card and Track Safety Awareness required for all persons attending site; and
* Contract award in November with initial works commencing late November 2016.

Works to be performed under this contract may be classed as rail safety work as prescribed by Rail Safety National Law and as such employees and/or contractors performing such works must be able to meet and maintain the medical criteria for a safety critical health assessment (category 1, 2 or 3) as prescribed by the national Standard for Health Assessment of Rail Safety Workers.
