The Expression of Interest for the Provision of Surgical Services in the Byron Area

⁠⁠⁠Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSW LHD) covers an area of 20,732 square kilometres, extending from the Tweed Local Government Area (LGA) in the north to the Clarence Valley LGA in the south.

Byron Shire is situated in far north-eastern New South Wales. Byron Bay and the hinterland that the Hospital serves had a population of approximately 35,000 persons in 2015. By 2021 this population is estimated to grow to approximately 38,000 of which a third will be over 65 years of age.

While the new Byron Central Hospital provides numerous services to residents of the Byron catchment area, surgical and associated procedural services will not be publically provided at this site.

The NSW Government (“the State”) is exploring whether a private hospital operator is willing to provide surgical services for public patients within the Byron catchment area at a facility located within the Byron LGA. The public patient surgical services required relate to the following day-only services:
* Diagnostic GI Endoscopy;
* Orthopaedics;
* Urology;
* Gynaecology; and
* Other non-speciality services.

Currently, public patients requiring these surgical services within the Byron catchment are treated at other facilities within the NNSW LHD or beyond.

Expressions of Interest (“EOIs”) are invited from organisations (“Respondents”) with appropriate experience and capacity to provide surgical services from within the Byron LGA (the “Services”). The EOI process is being undertaken to establish a shortlist of suitably experienced organisations that may be invited to tender for the right to provide the Services for a contractual period.
