Werribee Zoo Wind Turbine Project RFQ
Tender ID: 247855
Tender Details
Tender Description
Zoos Victoria operates under a zero carbon environment and is committed to continual improvement. As a zoo-based conservation organization, our sustainability focus encompasses habitat protection, pollution prevention, ecologically sustainable and ethical development and construction.
One of the ways the Zoo is looking to reduce its carbon footprint is to invest in renewable energy sources. A feasibility analysis through the University of Melbourne recommended the installation of a small scale wind power generator at Werribee Open Range Zoo. Zoos Victoria plan to build on this research to determine whether wind power or solar is the most effective in terms of environmental and cost benefit for renewable energy generation.
As part of this process a weather station has been installed at proposed site and a permit exemption gained from Heritage Victoria. Subject to wind modelling demonstrating suitable wind small scale wind turbine is proposed to further inform research on determining best options into the future.
The energy generated will be fed into the zoo's electricity grid powering animal exhibits, night enclosures, general visitor areas and administration
