Tender Details
Tender Description
The Port of Townsville is a potential entry route for exotic and invasive mosquitoes as well as a potential export pathway for Australian mosquitoes into other global Ports. Two species of greatest risk for the Port are the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, known carriers of viruses including Dengue Fever, Chikungunya virus, Zika, Yellow Fever, and Malaria.
As discussed further in the scope of work, mosquito management includes mosquito treatment, surveillance and reporting of mosquito numbers (including species), and surveillance of the Port area for potential mosquito breeding areas and recommendations for improvement.
Background information / Compatibility requirements
The Principal works in cooperation with the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry (DAFF) and Biosecurity Queensland (Department of Primary Industries (DPI)). DAFF conduct biosecurity controls within the First Point of Entry (FPOE) areas of the Port including mosquito management and surveillance. Townsville City Council (TCC) also conducts overall management of mosquitoes in Townsville. The program is intended to support both TCC and DAFF activities whilst meeting the Port’s biosecurity obligations.
