Tender Description
The National Foundation for Australia-China Relations is a national platform which promotes enhanced cooperation between Australia and China in support of Australia’s national interests.
Our priority objectives are to:
- Strengthen risk-informed engagement and practical cooperation between Australia and China, in Australia’s national interests
- Strengthen Australia’s resilience as a multicultural democracy in which Chinese-Australian communities thrive.

This year the 2026-27 grant round application process will comprise of two stages.
Stage One: applicant submits an Expressions of Interest (EOI) form and 500-word pitch describing their proposed grant activity by 12 noon AEST, Tuesday 26 May.
Stage Two: in early June, successful applicants from Stage One will be invited to complete and submit a full grant application. Full applications are due by 12 noon AEST, Friday 10 July.
Eligibility:
To be eligible applicants must represent an entity with an Australian Business Number (ABN), have an account with an Australian financial institution, be a legal entity with the capacity to enter into a legally binding agreement and be located in Australia or mainland, Hong Kong, Macau and/or Taiwan.

Grant Activity Timeframe:
Grants may be up to four (4) years in duration
Total Amount Available (AUD):
$6,900,000.00
Estimated Grant Value (AUD):
From $100,000.00 to $400,000.00
Instructions for Application Submission:
To submit the Stage One EOI application, you must:
- complete the 500-word Expression of Interest form through the SmartyGrants portal online platform
- provide all the information requested
- address all eligibility criteria
- submit your form by the indicated closing date and time.
Other Instructions:
The Foundation will host two virtual information sessions for potential applicants (in English and Mandarin Chinese) on Wednesday 6 May 2026.
