Tender Description

⁠⁠⁠The Aboriginal Studies Major Project Competition is a statewide initiative led by the NSW Department of Education to recognise and celebrate excellence in the Aboriginal Studies HSC course.

Project goals

The Aboriginal Studies Major Project Competition is a statewide initiative showcasing the depth, creativity, and cultural integrity of student Major Projects, which explore Aboriginal histories, cultures, knowledge systems, and contemporary experiences through ethical research and Community consultation. By elevating student voice and highlighting outstanding work, the initiative aims to strengthen engagement with Aboriginal education, support future learning pathways, and build meaningful connections between schools, Communities, and broader partners. We are seeking expressions of interest from organisations who share a commitment to education, cultural respect, and Community engagement to support and be part of this significant initiative.

This is the first time the department is seeking event partners to support this new event.

Scope

Value-in-kind Event Partners The Department is seeking partners to support the Aboriginal Studies Major Project Showcase through financial contributions or in-kind support that enhances student recognition, participation, and access.

Ways to partner:

  • Prizes and scholarships: Bookshop and general gift vouchers, technology vouchers, scholarships supporting further study in education, arts, community development, or Indigenous studies.
  • Pathways and experiences: Opportunities such as mentoring with Aboriginal professionals, cultural learning experiences, community organisation visits, university engagement programs, internships, guest speakers, or “yarning with leaders” sessions that connect students with future pathways.
  • Value-in-kind: Printing of posters/bags, merchandise, resources, venue support, catering.
  • Equity and access: Travel and accommodation support for regional and remote students, ensuring equitable participation for students and their families.
  • Future-focused extras: Workshops or experiences that build student capability in advocacy, storytelling, leadership, and community engagement, including media, digital storytelling, or education pathways.
