Tender Description

Strathbogie Shire Council is seeking suitably experienced bridge maintenance and strengthening contractors to repair and strengthen the Delatite County Road Bridge, located approximately 115 m from Killeens Hill Road, Gooram.

This project is part of Council’s Bridge Renewal Program, focusing on ensuring the existing bridge remains safe, structurally sound and is restored to its original design strength.

The bridge is an 8.9 m single-span timber deck bridge supported by four steel stringers [Kembla 24 x 7 ½ (600 x 190)], with one repaired concrete abutment and one original timber-piled abutment. Repairs have previously been made to strengthen the western abutment which remains in satisfactory repair. The eastern timber abutment retaining structure and timber piled stringer support structure require strengthening / renewing. The 3.6 metre wide timber deck inclusive of kerb beams requires renewal with like for like or more durable deck with similar dimensioned kerb beams. The existing deck comprises 200mm x 100mm x 3.6m long timber cross decking with 200mm x 125mm timber kerb beams. There are no running boards or side rails. Refer Attached photographs.

The renewal works will not involve full bridge replacement but will focus only on structural strengthening of the eastern pile and crosshead set, eastern abutment rehabilitation and deck renewal, consistent with the Shire’s renewal strategy. Tenderers are to determine and nominate their proposed methodology and materials to be used / reused in their tender. This should include Proposed materials for abutment, pile and crosshead set, deck & kerb beams. (e.g. timber type, treatment, dimensions, steel type, sizes, concrete panel dimensions, type etc. sufficient for proposal to be assessed.

Works are to be confined to the footprint of the existing structure and previously disturbed areas surrounding the immediate area of the bridge. Previously undisturbed areas are to be avoided so that potential cultural heritage issues are not triggered. Similarly, native vegetation removal is not permitted. Trimming back of branches will be confined to the minimum necessary for the work to proceed and is only to occur with prior written consent of the superintending engineer.
