Geologist Labour Services

Purpose

The company requires a number of quality contract geologists and experienced field assistants to support ongoing Resource Definition drill out across Cape York.

Given the nature of the work and its niche skillsets, suitable individuals with previous experience are necessary.

Background

While the Bauxite Geology Team transitions from catching up to maintaining the RTA R&R Standard, the need for experienced contractors remains, however will reduce in numbers and potentially length of time from previous years. The R&R Standard specifies the need for the BGT to deliver Assured Resources 5 years ahead of the mine and Measured Resources 10 years ahead of the mine.

Catch-Up phase was initiated after the lock-out of Resource Drill out during the Amrun build phase from 2015 – 2018. Further impacts to the R&R standard occurred during the identification and buffering of the Red Goshawk nests found on-lease, and further environmental and cultural heritage buffers put in place over already defined Assured Resources.

During a ramp up of activity to meet the R&R Standard from 2019, (resulting in ~12,000 holes being drilled each year in 2024 and 2025), the team demonstrated the value of hiring qualified and experienced personnel to complete the drill programs. When the equipment provided by drill contractors can be used to its full potential because of quality field staff, the output of that equipment is maximised, safety performance is improved, and the field season can be shortened.

As we move into maintain phase of the R&R Standard, the lessons learned from the catch-up phase can be implemented to maximise efficiency, safety, and return on budget.
