Provision of Mental Health Wellbeing Workforce

Peninsula Care Group (PCG), (Organisation) is the primary provider of health care services for both the metropolitan and rural residents of Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula and Frankston region. Services are delivered across multiple sites, from Seaford in the north to Rosebud in the south.

Within PCG, the Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (MHWS) are responsible for providing treatment care and support to clients with severe and enduring mental health conditions who require urgent and ongoing care by a skilled workforce.

In 2021 mid pandemic PMHWS was experiencing extreme difficulty in recruiting a skilled and capable mental health clinical workforce due to an undersupply and workforce shortage issues across the sector this was due to several influencing factors including: pandemic burn out, reduced intake of overseas trained staff and initiatives such as the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) providing different career pathways. These issues were compounded by growth funding invested in the sector to expand the roles and positions available across the state to support the implementation of recommendations from Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health System.
