The Mid-Western Regional Council (Council) area is a mining region in New South Wales, with coal mining forming a significant part of the local economy, employment base, and community identity.
As global and domestic energy and commodity markets evolve, the Mid-Western Region faces a critical transition period as several local coal mines approach the end of their operational lives. This transition will impact employment, local business supply chains, community wellbeing, land use, environmental management, and Council’s revenue streams.
