Tender Description

The Victorian Government is investing in the redevelopment and expansion of the Northern Hospital in Epping with an overall investment of $812.5m. The redevelopment will expand and improve facilities to include almost 200 treatment spaces and support 30,000 more emergency patients each year, so that more families in Melbourne's growing northern suburbs can access the care they need, close to home. Delivered by the Victorian Health Building Authority, John Holland and Northern Health, the Northern Hospital redevelopment is expected to be complete in late 2029.

Stage 2 of the construction phase works are being delivered by John Holland under a Managing Contractor form of contract as follows:

1. Early Works (mid-2026 to mid-2027)

  • New entrance on Cooper St including new signalisation
  • Existing services diversions
  • New Central Energy Plant (CEP)
  • Refurbishment of approximately 2,000m2 of the existing main hospital building

2. Main Delivery Works (mid-2027 to late-2029)

  • Demolition of existing structures and the construction of a new seven level tower accommodating an expanded emergency department featuring a dedicated paediatric zone, a specialised mental health and alcohol and other drugs hub, an emergency observation unit, extra inpatient beds and more car parks.
