Toowoomba Regional Council maintains one of Queensland's most extensive regional road networks, spanning over 4,500 kilometres of sealed and unsealed roads that connect our diverse communities from the urban centre to remote rural properties. This infrastructure represents a critical community asset valued at approximately $2.8 billion, requiring sophisticated management approaches to ensure ongoing service delivery within sustainable budget parameters.

Our current road condition assessment processes have served the community well but are increasingly challenged by the scale and complexity of modern asset management requirements. Traditional visual inspections, while thorough, are labour-intensive and subject to variability between different Road Inspectors. The time lag between defect occurrence and formal identification often results in more costly reactive maintenance rather than planned preventive interventions.
