Tender Description
The Melton TAFE Campus will deliver a range of specialist training programs designed to meet the diverse skills and workforce needs of the Melton and broader western metropolitan region. The campus will primarily focus on trade-based education, providing students with practical, industry-aligned training that supports pathways into apprenticeships, employment, and further vocational study. The campus will also serve as an access point for learners from a variety of backgrounds, including migrant and refugee communities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and those seeking to upskill or retrain.
Trade training at the Melton TAFE Campus will be an innovative, shared learning environment that is industry-connected, technology-enabled, and focused on integrating applied learning with real-world trade skills. Students will engage with contemporary tools, equipment, and practices across construction, engineering, manufacturing, and emerging trades, while developing the foundational skills required for apprenticeships, traineeships, and further vocational education
In addition to trade training, the campus will offer dedicated English language programs for migrants and refugees, supporting learners to develop the communication and literacy skills required for participation in education, training, and the workforce. These programs will be delivered as standalone offerings, responding to community demand and supporting broader social and economic inclusion.
The Melton TAFE Campus will also deliver selected information technology and cyber security courses to address skills shortages in the digital economy. These programs will operate as separate training streams, aligned with vocational education pathways in information technology and digital services, and will support learners seeking entry into or progression within the technology sector
To support learning that is framed by problem-based and design thinking approaches, the Melton TAFE Campus will be designed to:
- Respond to local industry focus areas and related educational programs and activities.
- Support contemporary learning and teaching practices with a focus on active, student-centred learning.
- Facilitate collaboration and teamwork amongst students, educators, industry, and community partners.
- Showcase education and training opportunities in a visible and engaging way that encourages prospective students to enquire about available offerings, reinforcing the principle that students are more likely to pursue pathways they can see and understand.
- Anticipate that educational programs and activities will change over time and therefore facilities must be agile to cater to unknown future program requirements.
- Offer high levels of functionality while also offering spatial flexibility, enabling staff to use the facilities in multiple ways, affording teachers the opportunity to trial different pedagogies and reflect with colleagues on the relative successes of the pedagogies employed.
- Provide breakout areas to allow students to work independently, with peers, or on a one-on-one basis with the teachers/instructors.
- Support the remote delivery of programs to students in their home schools, using online technologies.
- Allow for team teaching and group learning approaches.
In accordance with BKI’s Environmental Sustainability Plan the building should achieve minimum 5 star Green Star accreditation.
The Scope of Work to be provided includes, but is not limited to:
- Site preparation and external works - Site civil grading, services amendment, relocations, and installation of new infrastructure, such as access roads.
- Construction of the new Melton Campus - Construction of a new freestanding building including spaces for presentation and connection, collaboration and reflection, workshop, specialist skills, multi-purpose learning, and staff and support areas.
The building will showcase innovative, shared learning environments, including a workshop for trades and skills, and is industry-linked and focused on integrating technology with key future growth industries.
The Melton Campus building shall be delivered with consideration of future stages within the wider Melton master plan.
- Landscape works - Hard and soft landscaping to the building and surrounds.
