Mason Square Mural: Artist EOIs
Tender ID: 597368
Tender Details
Tender Description
The Mason Square mural is ready for a refresh! As part of both the recent budget adoption and our commitment to public art under the Igniting Creativity portfolio, the current Mason Square mural is due for a new interpretation.
We are now seeking quotes from experienced artists to design and install a new outdoor mural in Mason Square in Moonee Ponds. The area is home to several apartment buildings and local businesses, and garners plenty of foot traffic throughout the day as visitors to the area pass between Hall Street and Homer Street. We have undertaken an extensive consultation to discuss what themes visitors and residents of the area would like to see in represented in the next artwork. These themes reflect the values, interests and aspirations of the local community, who feel very connected to the artwork.
The appointed artist will be engaged to design two or three mural options, consult with community representatives to finalise the design, supply the final design artwork, and install the mural. The mural will respond to the research report, which determined the most popular themes people wanted to see were:
- local histories and place-based heritage
- Nature and the environment
- community life and connection.
Submission requirements
- A preliminary artist statement, description, or idea for the mural referencing the Outcome Report for the community consultation (PDF, 812KB). Minimum 200 words, and maximum of 2 A4 pages.
- Artist CV (PDF or accessible link) including artist website and/or artist social media pages if appropriate.
- Images or photos of relevant past projects (preliminary or detailed design images are not accepted at this stage).
It is hoped the successful artist will be available to complete the mural in December 2025.
