Scope of Work:
Rio Tinto Yarwun is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from suitably qualified and experienced suppliers for the provision of boiler tube welding services as part of our upcoming major outage program for 2026.
Scope of Work:
- Supply of qualified personnel, equipment, and materials for boiler tube welding, including but not limited to:
- Isolate, cut, and remove damaged or designated boiler water wall tubes, screen tubes, and associated components as per the shutdown task list.
- Prepare tube ends and adjacent surfaces for welding, including cleaning, beveling, and fit-up to required tolerances.
- Perform all welding activities using qualified welders and approved procedures, including:
- Manual and semi-automatic welding of carbon steel and alloy tubes (typically 2.5”–4” OD, wall thickness as specified).
- Execution of coded pressure welds, butt welds, and fillet welds as required.
- Application of pre-heat, interpass temperature control, and post-weld heat treatment (if specified).
- Review and confirm all work packs, drawings, and welding procedures in accordance with Rio Tinto and Australian Standards (AS1796, AS/NZS 3992, ASME IX, or equivalent).
- Attend pre-shutdown planning meetings and site inductions.
- Develop and submit detailed risk assessments, method statements, and QA/QC documentation for approval.
- Provide experienced supervision and QA/QC personnel on site for the duration of the works.
- Compliance with Rio Tinto’s specifications, standards, and HSE requirements
The scope will be delivered during planned shutdowns at the Yarwun site (Gladstone, QLD).
Minimum Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in large-scale boiler tube welding in heavy industry or power generation
- ASME Xi or AS1796 qualifications for all personnel
- Proven track record in safety, quality, and schedule performance
- Ability to mobilise resources in line with outage schedules (May & August)
- Compliance with Rio Tinto’s contractor prequalification, safety, and site rules
