This Approach To Market is for the Design Only – Culvert and Bridge Betterment Program Package 2.
Tweed Shire Council is seeking submissions from suitably qualified and experienced consultants to undertake detailed design, investigation, documentation and Safety in Design services for a number of bridge, culvert, causeway and pavement sites within the Tweed Shire.
The sites listed in Table 1 were impacted by the February 2022 flood event, resulting in structural damage across culverts, bridges, causeways, and associated pavement approaches. Many of the existing timber bridges and culverts have been either washed out or sustained significant damage, requiring full replacement with more resilient concrete or rigid pavement solutions. In several locations, flood flows have caused undermining of abutments, scouring of approaches, and differential height issues downstream, which have reduced the serviceability and safety of the assets.
The damage necessitates reconstruction and betterment works, including the installation of new culverts with low-flow fish passage provisions, replacement of timber bridges with concrete structures, upgrading of pavement approaches, and construction of more flood-resilient causeways to restore access and improve long-term resilience of the local road network.
