Tender Description

Danggu Geikie Gorge National Park, located approximately 20 kilometres west of Fitzroy Crossing in the central Kimberley region, sustained significant damage during the January 2023 flood event. Infrastructure including buildings, the bitumen car park, and a concrete walkway were severely impacted. Sections of the walkway and the concrete-and-steel jetty abutment collapsed into the Fitzroy River (Martuwarra) after being undercut by powerful floodwaters.

As river levels have since receded to approximately 2.5 metres, portions of the submerged concrete and steel have become visible below the surface, posing a serious safety hazard to recreational boaters and swimmers. The removal of this flood-damaged infrastructure is essential to restoring safe access to the river and enabling the return of the tourist vessel Ms Casey Ross to operation.

The ongoing clean-up process at Danggu Geikie Gorge includes, but is not limited to, the extraction of damaged concrete and steel from the riverbed. In some cases, materials may need to be cut or reduced in size to allow for safe removal. River access will be established via a contoured entry point on the riverbank, and any terrestrial areas disturbed during the operation will be re-contoured upon completion to restore the site to its original condition.
