AgriFutures Australia invites applications for the provision of the services of an individual or organisation to deliver a fit-for-purpose review and analysis of Deer Industry supply chain constraints and challenges and opportunities in accordance with this Request for Quote (RFQ).

The Deer Industry Association of Australia has identified access to abattoirs and supply chain logistics and constraints as a major impediment to the financial viability of Australian deer farmers.

Affordable and timely access to abattoirs is critical for industry growth. Stakeholder feedback suggests that in some jurisdictions the combination of no or low abattoir availability, state legislation and complex license and permit restrictions makes it difficult to make an income. Lack of access to abattoirs and prohibitive costs have been identified as one of the major reasons deer farmers are leaving the industry.

The outcome of this project will ensure deer industry levy payers have access to information, location and indicative costs of processing to make informed business decisions. These outcomes will be underpinned by a greater awareness, knowledge and understanding of legislation, regulation and licencing pertinent to processing, transport, storage and sales of venison products in Victoria and South Australia.
