The users and their needs

Who We Are

The AIHW is an independent federal government agency with more than 30 years of experience working with health and welfare data. We produce authoritative and accessible information and statistics to inform and support better policy and service delivery decisions, leading to better health and wellbeing for all Australians. We publicly release over 200+ reports and data analyses annually covering over 75 health and welfare topics. These are widely used by government, researchers, policymakers and the community. The AIHW is recognised both nationally and internationally for our statistical expertise and proven track record in providing high quality, independent evidence. We believe that stronger evidence via data and information is crucial for better decisions and improved health and welfare. This is why much of our data and information is accessible, transparent and available to anyone.

The Current and Future Needs of the AIHW.

The AIHW is seeking to transform the current data and analytics ecosystem to facilitate modern, future focussed infrastructure and tools to improve integration, scalability and flexibility required to efficiently meet growing customer and staff demand in producing timely products, supported by automation. Through implementation of a new hybrid cloud and on-prem data and analytics platform, AIHW envisages it can automate and enhance its data processing capabilities for routine processes, while enabling the use of integrated data, using sophisticated analytical tools and approaches, including exploration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to support productivity growth and human led analysis. The people, process, technology and data changes proposed through a new Data & Analytics Ecosystem (DAE) will enable AIHW to continue to effectively deliver our role, vision and strategic goals, for the benefit of the Australian community.
