The Alice Springs Town Council (the Council) invites tenders from qualified and experienced concreting contractors for the demolition, upgrade, and construction of footpaths, kerbs, and ramps within the Alice Springs Central Business District (CBD) corridors.
This project is a critical initiative aimed at enhancing public safety, improving accessibility, and modernizing key pedestrian infrastructure within high-traffic areas of the Alice Springs CBD. The successful contractor will be responsible for delivering a high-quality product that meets all relevant Australian Standards and provides long-lasting community benefit.
Project Objectives
The primary objectives of this project are to:
- Construct New and Demolish or Upgrade Existing Infrastructure: Undertake the full scope of works for the construction of new footpaths, kerbs, and ramps, as well as the demolition and upgrade of existing infrastructure, in accordance with all relevant Australian Standards, including but not limited to AS 3600 (Concrete Structures) and AS 1379 (Specification and Supply of Concrete).
- Enhance Pedestrian Safety: Address identified priority footpaths requiring immediate repairs to mitigate hazards and ensure a safe environment for all pedestrians.
- Target High-Traffic Areas: Prioritize works within key high-traffic CBD areas, specifically Hartley Street, Bath Street, Gregory Street, and Todd Street, to maximize impact and benefit for residents and visitors.
- Utilize High-Strength Materials: Replace existing footpaths with reinforced high-strength exposed concrete finishes to ensure durability, longevity, and reduced maintenance requirements.
- Improve Accessibility: Integrate features that enhance accessibility for visually and mobility-impaired residents, ensuring full compliance with AS 1428.1:2021 (Design for access and mobility - General requirements for access - New building work). This includes, but is not limited to, the incorporation of compliant ramps, tactile ground surface indicators (TGSIs), and appropriate surface textures.
Scope of Works
The scope of works for this project includes, but is not limited to:
- Site preparation, including surveying, clearing, and demolition of existing infrastructure.
- Excavation and sub-base preparation for new concrete works.
- Formwork installation and reinforcement placement.
- Placement, finishing, and curing of high-strength exposed aggregate concrete for footpaths.
- Construction of new and upgrading of existing concrete kerbs and gutters.
- Construction and upgrade of compliant concrete ramps, including the integration of TGSIs.
- Management of pedestrian and vehicle traffic during construction, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum safety.
- Adherence to all environmental regulations and waste management protocols.
- Thorough site clean-up upon completion of works.
Contractor Requirements
Tenderers must demonstrate:
- Proven experience in similar civil concreting projects, particularly involving public infrastructure.
- A strong understanding and demonstrated compliance with all relevant Australian Standards (AS 3600, AS 1379, AS 1428.1, and others as applicable).
- Adequate plant, equipment, and skilled personnel to complete the works within the specified timeframe.
- A robust safety management system and a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Appropriate insurances and licenses.
