Tender Description

ACEN Australia Pty Ltd has approval to develop the New England Solar and Battery Project; a significant grid-connected solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) project along with associated infrastructure, approximately 6 kilometers (km) east of the township of Uralla, which lies approximately 19 km south of Armidale, in the Uralla Shire local government area (LGA).

The project is within the New England Renewable Energy Zone (REZ), in New South Wales, Australia, and is referred to as the ACEN New England (NE) BESS.

ACEN Australia has appointed Energy Vault as the Contractor delivering NE BESS.

The ACEN NE BESS will be a 200 MW/2 hour battery energy storage system located adjacent to the NES (Solar) substation with a dedicated point of connection. The Transgrid Switchyard expansion and Substation works are not included in Energy Vaults Scope, however the 33kV Substation SCADA will be integrated into the Energy Vault EMS.

The Battery limit for the project is the termination of the 33kV cabling into the 33kV Substation Siemens feeders.

The New England Battery Energy Storage System will be constructed as follows:

NE BESS Section 1: 50MW / 100MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
NE BESS Facility (NTP2): The construction of the additional 150MW / 300MWh BESS to enable a complete Facility of 200MW / 400MWh BESS in total

Project mobilisation is April 2025 and delivery/execution of the project will run into 2026.

When engaging subcontractors and/or suppliers Energy Vault (EV) have QHSE due diligence processes that are as per client and EV requirements and are as per applicable regulatory and best practice risk management requirements. Suppliers/contractors looking to win work with EV will receive a Subcontractor Information Pack and Pre-Qualification checklist, both of which should be completed and returned to EV for review.
